It's a cool, misty morning here in remote Menyamya, Morobe, on Friday, March 31, 2023. The mountain grandeur of Menyamya is simply mesmerizsng. On this beautiful morning, Menyamya apple grower Kelos Nicky, from Kokwaikwa Village, Kome LLG, is preparing his produce to showcase. The apples look just as good as any you can find in major supermarkets in the towns and cities of PNG. I sink my teeth into a big, juicy, and sweet Menyamya apple. Delicious, and to think that this is from Menyamya, one of the most remote and undeveloped areas of PNG. The amazing thing is that the Menyamya people have grown the apples themselves, with no outside help or support whatsoever, in their Garden of Eden. The apple trees are not grafted, as is the case with apple trees around the world, but grown straight from seeds.
