NOTE FROM TED: TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedx_content_guidelines.pdf Games made by fans are becoming so common that they are revolutionizing the gaming industry. Co-founder & CEO of Game Jolt, Yaprak DeCarmine, walks us through the future of gaming where gamers tell their own story through their favorite games. Yaprak is the co-founder and CEO of Game Jolt, one of the largest communities for people who make and play video games. Born and raised in Ankara, Turkey, she moved to the United States with her family at the age of 9. Yaprak relied heavily on video games as well as TV shows like the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to learn English. After meeting her husband, David, while working at a startup in Seattle, they decided to quit their jobs to grow Game Jolt into the influential platform for millions of gamers and creators from all corners of the world -- ranging from influencers with millions of followers to studios with millions of dollars in revenue. As of today, 150,000,000 people have visited Game Jolt to join thousands of fan communities and play over 200,000 self-published games. Yaprak has led partnerships with the biggest influencers and brands in the world to create opportunities for creators and is dedicated to build the platform where 3 billion gamers can call home. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
