Dry skins - Project 6
Rijksstudio Award 2017 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands Inspired by Printed paper Geisha`s with sumo dolls after 1765 or before 1806. Inspiration The style of geisha and their clothing tradition has been always inspiring me in details. I love their elegance and all these ritual movements, walking or serving. I found very interesting these sticks in their head to keep the hair tight. So, I choosed to create my own “sticks” with skins of melon and watermelon after the process of drying under the sun. It took more than 2 weeks for each to have a good enough dry and becoming strong to hang them on without any problem. Material Watermelon, melon, toothpicks, black fabric, acrylic colours… Dimensions of artpiece – Dry skins The kimono - Length 67cm, height 51cm The watermelon hat – diameter 35cm (Note: The doll is not included on this art project)
