Rossini's sprightly overture has some technical challenges and a lilting euphonium solo. For this example I'm using the low/mid-priced Austin Custom Brass "Doubler" compensating euphonium, which is the type of instrument used by many players who practice these excerpts. This is a very nice horn for those on a budget, such as a trombone/tuba player looking for a second horn (hence the name "Doubler"), a college student, or an amateur player who can't justify the $7,000-$12,000 price of a professional model. Thanks to Trent Austin for the loan so I could include such an instrument as part of these Excerpt Book demonstrations! This is one of dozens of euphonium excerpts in "Euphonium Excerpts from the Standard Band and Orchestra Library" by Barbara Payne.
