The DS18 Select Series are awesome speakers and a great newer company to compete with the big brands.I have purchased the 4inch, 2 pairs of 6.5 inch and the 6x9s. Each one of these pairs are not only affordable and budget friendly but the sound quality is very impressive.I want to run to the pros and cons quickly then give run down of the speakers I own and some comments about them.DS18 Select SeriesCons: Lacks low bass (would benefit with a subwoofer added)Pros: Highs really sparkle and are not harsh.Midrange and Mid Bass are really clean and clear soundingGood power handlingVery affordableWell Made and esthetically pleasingI added a picture of a speaker box I created/modified, out of an old KLH 2 way box (the original speakers were blown),using the DS18 6.5 inch and the 4 inch. I use these boxes for a sound comparison and reference in the recording studio, instead of having to burn cds and test the songs/mixes in the car. They sound awesome and easy to create a custom sounding box on a budget.In my car I am listening to a pair of DS18 6.5 inch (in the front doors) with the addition of a pair of DS18 1 inch Silk Dome Tweeters, and a pair of DS18 6x9 in the rear deck. They sound good together, much better than stock. The drawback in the car is the bass response for the speakers are fairly weak, in comparison to similar priced speakers from Rockford Fosgate R1 2 ways (which I previously used).If you added a small subwoofer to this setup I know this would be really impressive, since the higher and mid and mid ass ranges are covered nicely. So if you want low bass from DS18 Selects,than you might want to step into DS18 Gen-X Line of speakers. I own a pair of the 6x9s and they produce more bass than the Select series . * A side note the Rockford Fosgates us silk dome tweeters for beautiful high range and have good bass response, but lack some Midrange, almost a scooped smiley face eq sound.
