How Intumescent Paint Works on Wood with Thermoguard Timbercoat - This video shows a simultaneous burn test of three pieces of wood. One is bare wood, one has ordinary gloss paint on and the other has an intumescent coating of Thermoguard Timbercoat. Timbercoat protects wood to British Standard Class 1 and Class 0 resulting in no surface spread of flame. The test period of 45 minutes shows the effect on the three wood panels and how the intumescent paint protects the substrate for the whole time. Some of this video was used by Megastructures: Built from Disaster Stadiums TV programme to show the effectiveness of intumescent coatings. Thermoguard Timbercoat is an Intumescent paint for bare or previously painted timber and timber derivative surfaces where surface spread of flame and fire propagation need to be upgraded to Class 1, 0 and or/ EN Class B. Thermoguard Timbercoat can also achieve 30 & 60 minutes Fire Resistance but the technical department must be contacted prior to use. Timbercoat provides Low Smoke Emission and can be used inside and out, is low-odour and water-based, making it user and environmentally friendly. INTUMESCENT FIRE PROTECTION When exposed to a fire Timbercoat expands to create a fire protective barrier, insulating the timber surfaces from heat and oxygen. FINISH AND COLOUR RANGE Timbercoat is overcoated with the following Flame Retardant Finishes; - 2010 Compliant Gloss & Oil Eggshell – BS 4800, RAL & NCS colour ranges - Acrylic Matt & Acrylic Eggshell – Most BS 4800, RAL & NCS popular wall colours - Anti-Graffiti - Most BS 4800, RAL colours (Two coats required) - Metallic Trim Colours – Steel, Gunmetal, Silver SPECIFICATION To achieve Class O/EN Class B, prepare according to manufacturer’s instructions and apply - - 2 coats of Timbercoat @ 7m2 per litre followed by; - 1 coat of Flame Retardant Paint @ 8m2 per litre.
