But how will the industry rebuild, and what should be different to life before the pandemic? We’ve been talking to some of London’s theatre stars about the recovery ahead, and why it should matter. Today we’re speaking to game-changing playwright and performer Travis Alabanza, whose play Overflow, about trans safety in public bathrooms, opened at the Bush Theatre in December. Forced to close just days after opening night, the play was then livestreamed from the Bush’s website in January of this year. “I got into theatre from the clubs. They talked to us about how the pandemic put a stop to the international tour of their show Burgerz, resting and writing new work in lockdown and how theatre can give people a voice.
