Zoroastrians Towers of Silence. Dakhmeh, Yazd, Iran

Dakhmeh is a very famous place in Yazd. This is the oldest graveyard in the world with Zoroastrians Towers of Silens. When people died priests bring their bodies to the special place (far from city and village). In Zoroastrism fire, earth and water is a holy substance and dead bodies should not desecrate it. They put bodies on the top of the tower and left them till humans flesh been eaten by predator birds. It also helped to escape many epidemies. Only few Towers of Silence is still exist and one of the most famous is in Yazd. Untill recently such type of burrials was practiced in Zoroastrians community.
