Lesson - Inside/Outside playing ala Allan Holdsworth, Eric Johnson
I just want to demonstrate that the inside/outside stuff is not just for hardcore jazz players. You can play it on a solid body guitar over blues, rock and fusion stuff too. In this lesson, I'm using my Yamaha SG600, a Gladio SC overdrive pedal and some delay to get more of a rock guitar / fusion guitar sound. Somewhere in between Eric Johnson and Allan Holdsworth's sound. Just a little disclaimer - I've never copied Holdsworth and would never in a million years claim to be a disciple of his or any kind of expert but I think the lines I'll show you in this video will get you into the ballpark the tone and feel he projects. More importantly, it demonstrates that you can take shapes such as pentatonics or even random note patterns and turn them into music. I am demonstrating pentatonic side stepping, sonic shapes (borrowed from the great Howard Roberts), lines influenced by David Fiuczynski and by my book, Sheets of Sound for Guitar. I hope you find this information useful. Please like and support my youtube channel youtube.com/@jackzucker. Love you guys and thanks again for having my back. Jaz
