A teacher of mine in Music College used to say that over 25% of our study hours will end up as being wasted in our lifetime as musicians. I believe that, because when you consider all of the things we end up wasting our time on, the number of hours can actually become quite staggering. The big question is, what should we be spending our time on? Are the days of dreaming about new gear over? No, that is not the case at all. In this lesson, I’m going to help with some the most common areas where we get distracted. These include; the (tone)wood a guitar is made from, gimmicky guitar devices, and even ‘off the wall’ concepts like placing tin-foil under guitar strings. The big factor here is to be very limiting with your time on distractions. In other words, establish a set of personal preferences and then stick to your guns - especially after you understand how they work for you. The contents of a music store can make you dizzy, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Know your preferences and keep them in check so as to never lose your focus.
