Vítezslav Novák: In primavera (In Spring), Op. 45 No. 2 (from suite 'Exoticon')

Novák (1870–1949) studied composition with Dvorak. This suite was dedicated to Liszt's pupil Conrad Ansorge, and each of the five pieces, though written in a central-European style uses an 'exotic' theme, and 'In Spring' is based on a Chinese theme, and has a vaguely pentatonic feel. The piece is quite hesitant, and as such seems to illustrate the stirrings of nature in early Spring.
