The First Wild Roses In My Garden 2016
While I clear away all the old, dead wood and weeds from my cottage garden, I decided to give some attention to my old wild rose bushes. They began as tea roses and heirloom roses (grafted onto strong "Dr. Huey" root stock. Dr. Huey introduced this beautiful dark red wichurana rambling rose in 1914). But the winters of 2013 and 2014 killed them off. And so, they have come back on the original Dr. Huey root stock, creating tall, lush and hardy roses that dot my garden with drops of rich garnet from the end of May to mid June (sadly, they are short in blooming), but I love them just the same. A lot of "purists" dig them up - but WHY??
