Bose SoundLink Flex portable speaker with 12 hours of battery life For the first time in a long time, Bose is releasing a new portable Bluetooth speaker. The $149 SoundLink Flex features a ruggedized design with an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, 12-hour battery life, and "astonishing" audio performance for its size, according to Bose. The SoundLink Flex is quite compact, measuring 7.9 inches wide, 3.6 inches high, 2.1 inches deep, and weighing slightly more than one pound. It also features a built-in utility loop for attaching to a carabiner. There will be three hues available: black, smoky white, and blue. A unique transducer is housed inside the SoundLink Flex, which Bose claims is "as huge as could fit" and capable of creating "bass that you can feel in your chest." The speaker can recognise its orientation - upright, hanging, or flat on its back — and adjust music output appropriately, according to a function called "PositionIQ" by Bose. The speaker includes a silicone back and a powder-coated steel grille that, according to Bose, is meant to resist corrosion and UV light degradation. It's a pool-safe speaker, with an IP67 rating, and Bose claims it'll float to the surface if submerged. The SoundLink Flex isn't especially "smart," but it can be connected to any Bose smart speakers or soundbars you have at home. You may also use it to create a stereo pair with another SoundLink Flex or another Bose portable speaker. A built-in microphone allows you to take calls and interact with your phone's voice assistant. At $149, the SoundLink is less expensive than speakers like the Sonos Roam, however it lacks the latter's extensive feature set. Bose also faces stiff competition from JBL, UE, and others in the Bluetooth speaker market. Even still, the company's portable speakers sound far better than their diminutive size would suggest.
