is this "next-gen" worthy? Crysis 2

so i just got crysis 2 from a friend and started up the game, and it got me thinking, isn't this how the games on the new consoles look, if alittle worse. i do not have an xbox one or PS4, and have never played on one, but it kinda puzzles me why someone would lock into something that can not be upgraded at all. (this is before that XB1 cloud stuff, so that may help, but i donno)
