FMDS Programs’ Perception on the Use of Immersive Technologies Author(s) Joane V. Serrano 1 , Camille G. Hemedes 2 1 University of the Philippine Open University (PHILIPPINES) 2 University of the Philippine Open University (PHILIPPINES) Abstract Since the Industrial Revolution 4.0, human labor needs and the economy have changed, impacting education with employers needing graduates who possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through technological aid and digitalization in education, these arising demands can be addressed. At the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), consisting of 14 diverse graduate programs, caters to various fields, from environmental resource management and cultural studies to public health and the sciences. The FMDS has been currently working on its Academic Programs Improvement (API) as part of the University of the Philippines goal of achieving academic excellence within the UP system. In 2022, the faculty focused on the use of immersive technologies. With rising graduate expectations and evolving modes of learning, immersive technology replicates real-life scenarios, improving students' practical skills in a non-traditional and convenient manner. This study sought to investigate FMDS program chairs' perceptions of the adoption of immersive technologies through an interview method during the recently completed program planning and a non-probability sampling survey method. Results exhibited positive responses and attitudes towards the integration of immersive technologies on FMDS courses, which may improve course delivery and enhance learning outcomes once implemented. Findings from this research will be used as a reference in developing immersive learning technologies for the faculty and the university.
