Celtic Guitar - ‘The Ten Year Set’ (Kenneth Belsham)
‘The Ten Year Set’ A set of original tunes that I’ve been writing off and on for the past decade, so it feels amazing to finally put them down! I’ve included some more instrumentation (sparsely) but they also work as a solo set. ‘Moving North’ I wrote this in 2016 or so, whilst living outside Newcastle. My wife had moved from Cornwall to Leeds, to Newcastle, and we were moving north again (and again as it turned out!) to central Scotland. ‘An Drochaid Shneachta’ Or ‘The Snowy Bridge’. I wrote this during a snowstorm-induced power cut in Nethy Bridge, a forest village nestled in the Cairngorms Mountains, back in 2009, making this the oldest of the set. It was originally written for fiddle and whistle, so I decided to play the fiddle part on mandolin, because I need frets apparently... ‘Popping The Cork’ I’d toyed with ideas like this for a few years, but finally settled on the B section whilst on (an eventful) holiday in Cork, in the south of Ireland, back in 2016. It is....a finger twister. 😬 Fergus wishes I would shut up, but does like the third tune. As always, it’s the Lowden Guitars O35Cx (tuned to CGCGCD), with a G7th Newport capo, mic’d with a pair of sE Electronics sE1a condensers. The score for this is available to buy on Sheet Music Plus at https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/…/the-ten-year-set-…/21377663 Enjoy, and please share if you like it. Kenneth
