Intel Core i7-3930K vs AMD Ryzen 5 1600X (Gaming + x264 Recording)

Notes: 1. This comparison represents performance for gaming while simultaneously recording at 1080p 60 FPS with the OBS x264 encoder. When not recording, most games are limited by GPU performance even at 1080p, so there is no performance difference between the CPUs in that case. 2. The 3930K system has PCIe 3.0 support enabled. Although Sandy Bridge-E processors officially only support PCIe 2.0, they do have hardware support for PCIe 3.0 and it can be enabled via a registry modification. 3. A previous version of this video made an error in comparing 3930K gameplay+recording benchmarks with 1600X gameplay-only benchmarks. This video is the corrected version. The memory speed of the 3930K has also been increased from 1600 MT/s to 2133 MT/s for this re-test to alleviate concerns about it holding back CPU performance, although some direct testing indicated that the increased memory speed had no effect on performance. =================================================== System:   • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (64-bit), Version 1709 (Build 16299.125)   • GPU Driver Version: GeForce 390.65 (Jan 08, 2018)   • Capture Software: OBS Studio (64-bit) version 20.1.3, x264 encoder   • Framerate Overlay: FRAPS version 3.5.99   • System Overlay: HWiNFO64 v5.74-3363 / RivaTuner Statistics Server v7.0.2 Recording: Settings can be viewed here: https://i.imgur.com/vcvHHC8.png https://i.imgur.com/6VFvFbX.png https://i.imgur.com/Y790AS9.png OBS Output Settings: • Encoder: x264 • Rate Control: VBR • Bitrate: 25000 • CRF: 16 • Keyframe Interval: 0 (Auto) • CPU Usage Preset (veryfast) OBS Video Settings: • Base (Canvas) Resolution: 1920x1080 • Output (Scaled) Resolution: 1920x1080 • Downscale Filter: Lanczos • FPS: 60 OBS Advanced Settings: • Process Priority: High • Renderer: Direct3D 11 • Color Format: NV12 Hardware:   • Intel Core i7-3930K at 4.0 GHz (40 × 100.5 MHz) @ 1.25 V   • Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 Rev 1.0 (BIOS version F7; March 30, 2014)   • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8.0 GiB 256-bit GDDR5X (EVGA SC GAMING ACX 3.0); [2.0 GHz core, 11.0 GT/s memory, 352 GB/s memory bandwidth, PCI Express 3.0 ×16]   • 16 GiB (4 × 4 GiB) Samsung Green DDR3 at 1066 MHz (2133 MT/s) 11-11-11-28 in Quad-Channel mode   • 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD on SATA Rev. 3 (6 Gbit/s) https://i.imgur.com/bC66g4d.png   • AMD Ryzen 5 1600X at 4.0 GHz (40 × 100.0 MHz) @ 1.41875 V   • ASUS PRIME X370-PRO (BIOS version 4011; April 19, 2018)   • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8.0 GiB 256-bit GDDR5X (EVGA SC GAMING ACX 3.0); [2.0 GHz core, 11.0 GT/s memory, 352 GB/s memory bandwidth, PCI Express 3.0 ×16]   • 16 GiB (2 × 8 GiB) Corsair LPX DDR4 at 1500 MHz (3000 MT/s) 15-17-17-35 in Dual-Channel mode   • 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD on SATA Rev. 3 (6 Gbit/s) https://i.imgur.com/aFXgFEa.png https://i.imgur.com/RbM667i.png https://i.imgur.com/RPrZY2a.png https://i.imgur.com/PxKL1eq.png =================================================== Test Settings: All Games:   • Resolution: 1920 × 1080   • Window Mode: Borderless Window   • V-Sync: Disabled Crysis 3: • Game Version: 1.2.1.1000   • Anti-Aliasing: Disabled   • Texture Resolution: Very High   • System Spec: Very High   • [All Advanced Graphics settings]: Very High   • Anisotropic Filtering: 16X   • Motion Blur: Disabled   • Lens Flares: Yes Titanfall 2: • Game Version: 1.0.1.3 • Field of View: 90 • Film Grain: Minimum • Color Blind Mode: Off • Smooth Sprint View: On • Adaptive Resolution FPS Target: 45 • Adaptive Supersampling: Disabled • Anti-aliasing: TSAA • Texture Streaming Budget: Insane (8 GB VRAM) • Texture Filtering: Anisotropic 16X • Ambient Occlusion: Enabled • Dynamic Spot Shadows: Disabled • Model Draw Distance: Very Far • [All other video settings]: High Battlefield 1: • Game Version: 1.0.54.32003   • Field of View: 80 (Hor+96)   • Vehicle 3P Field of View: 55 (Hor+70)   • ADS Field of View: Off   • Weapon Depth of Field: On   • Chromatic Aberration Effect: On   • Film Grain Effect: On   • Lens Distortion Effect: On   • High Dynamic Range: Off   • DX12 Enabled: Off   • Resolution Scale: 100%   • UI Scale Factor: 50%   • Framerate Limiter: 200   • GPU Memory Restriction: On   • [All Advanced settings]: Ultra   • Antialiasing Post: Off   • Ambient Occlusion: HBAO StarCraft II: • Game Version: 4.2.1.62848 • Antialias: Disabled (Unchecked) • Graphics Quality: Extreme The Witcher 3: • Game Version: 1.31A • [All Post-Processing settings]: Off   • Maximum Frames Per Second: Unlimited   • Preserve System Gamma: Off   • NVIDIA HairWorks: Off   • NVIDIA HairWorks AA: 0   • NVIDIA HairWorks Preset: Low • [All other Graphics settings]: Ultra   • Hardware Cursor: On All original gameplay recordings, which include game settings, can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLS0zEfAdcPF0oHrWhPXehkr3-TxpqxmAg
