Your VILLAGERS gain experience from whatever job you assign them even if that is not the job they enjoy doing. By setting the SEASON DURATION to MAX, I have been able to get several villagers to LEVEL 10 before the end of the first year. Then I start traiing them at other jobs. When Villagers have children, the offspring is supposed to inherit skills. I have not been able to verify this yet. They say the same is trfue for your wife. If you both have high stats your heir(s) may be more UBER. At the moment I have only been concentrating on STICKS AND STONES primarily and have a few helping with FOOD. HAPPINESS is high as all the villagers now live in stone, insulated homes with wood tile roofs.
